FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 11, 2016

On March 2, 2016, Georgia House of Representatives Passed H.R 1580 Resolution That Honors and Recognizes the Nagorno Karabakh Republic

Washington, DC – Americans for Artsakh (AFA) welcomes Georgia House of Representatives’ adoption of the House Resolution 1580 that honors and recognizes the democratic achievements of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (Artsakh).

“We join the Armenian American community in the state of Georgia and throughout the United States in welcoming the Georgia House of Representatives’ recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic and its fledgling democracy," said AFA Executive Director Noel Thompson.

"Adoption of H.R. 1580 once again symbolizes the triumph of democracy over tyranny".

Co-sponsored by Georgia Representatives Pat Gardner (D-Atlanta) and Demetrius Douglas (D-Stockbridge), H.R. 1580 encourages “the international community to give appropriate recognition to the Nagorno Karabakh Republic as a free, independent, and sovereign democracy.”

“On behalf of Americans for Artsakh, I would like to express gratitude to you for co-sponsoring H.R. 1580. Your leadership in supporting Artsakh's independence is in a par with universal ideals and values of liberty and democracy, which represent cornerstones of the American nation,” stated Thompson in his letter to Rep. Gardner and Rep. Douglas.

Georgia became another state to recognize and support the independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, Artsakh after California, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine and Louisiana.

Americans for Artsakh is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization established to preserve freedom, strengthen democracy, foster economic development, protect the cultural identity and promote the heritage of the people of Artsakh.
